Description

Two houses, dated circa 1840, situated in Gilesgate, Durham. The houses are constructed of painted render with Lakeland slate roofs. Number 95A, set back from the road, is three bays wide and has a renewed glazed central door with a small window above and a thin painted sill. Flanking gable projections contain three-light windows; those on the ground floor have chamfered stone surrounds, and those on the upper floor are wood-mullioned, all featuring glazing bars. A bracketed door hood sits between the projections, and decorative bargeboards adorn the gables. Number 95, to the right, has a studded, ledged, and boarded door in the entrance bay, with a Tudor arch flanked by blind slits and a label mould above. Two-storey canted bays feature wood-mullioned windows with sill strings and a gutter board at the eaves. Dormers above the canted bays contain small, two-light casements with label moulds. The steeply pitched roof features tall, rendered end chimneys topped with square yellow pots.
