Description
The St Cuthberts Society Boat House, built in 1894, is located off Green Lane on the north side of the river in Durham and Framwellgate. This boat house was constructed for the St Cuthberts Society Boat Club and features red brick with slate roofs. It has a chamfered plinth and cut brick eaves.
The north front, which faces the river, includes a single-storey boat shed with seven bays on the right, separated by brick buttress pilasters. The second bay contains a large three-light window, with a smaller window in a gable above it. The fifth bay features a single three-light window with a segmental head.
To the east, there is a two-storey clubhouse cross wing that has a segment-headed three-light window and a projecting wooden balcony with a hipped slate roof. This balcony is supported by a central, half-glazed, four-panel door flanked by sidelights. Above the door, there is a small stone plaque inscribed with the year 1894. The west gable end of the building has a double flank door.
