Description

The stable block behind Vane Tempest Hall was built around 1863 for the 2nd Durham Militia. It is constructed from snecked sandstone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof with stone gable copings. The building has two storeys, five windows, and a one-bay lower storebuilding. To the left, there is a door with a chamfered Tudor-arched surround, along with a Dutch door and two boarded doors that have chamfered lintels. The two ground-floor windows have wood mullions and transoms, and their stone sills are chamfered. The roof includes five half-dormers, and there is a rear ashlar chimney topped with fleur-de-lis crested yellow pots.
