Description
106 and 107 Gilesgate are two houses and shops that have been combined into one building, dating from around 1820. The ground floor features painted incised stucco, while the first floor is rendered with pebbledash and has painted ashlar dressings. The roof is made of Welsh slate and includes one brick chimney and one rendered chimney.
The shop on the left has a four-panelled double door with a two-paned overlight above it. The flanking windows, which have glazing bars, are supported by narrow fluted pilasters and are topped with a plain fascia and a full-width hood. The shop on the right has been altered and features a late 19th-century vehicle door and window with vertical glazing bars.
The central paired doors and their overlights are renewed and have plain surrounds under wedge stone lintels. The first floor sashes also have similar lintels, glazing bars, and projecting stone sills. The low-pitched roof has end chimneys, with the left chimney featuring round yellow pots. This building is noted for the survival of its early shop features.
