Description
The Thompson Monument, located 3 metres south of the Church of St. Brandon, is a small pedestal monument dedicated to Robert Thompson, who died in 1729. Made of sandstone, the monument stands 1 metre high and features a square-plan pedestal with a wide cyma-moulded plinth and a corniced top slab that is inscribed. The die of the monument has sunk lozenges on the north and south sides, an angel head carved in a sunk oval frame on the east side, and three flowers in a vase in an identical frame on the west side. The inscription on the top slab is almost illegible and reads: "Here lieth ye Body of Robert Thompson of Brancepeth ... died ... 1729 ...".
