Description
The war memorial affixed to Memorial Cottage was built in 1922 to honor the men who worked for the Mainsforth Colliery. It features a rectangular grey marble plaque with a curved moulded cornice. In the center, there is a carved laurel wreath surrounded by the inscription: "MAINSFORTH COLLIERY AND FERRYHILL STATION, WAR MEMORIAL, 1914-1919." Below this, the names of all those who died are listed in three columns, with the phrase "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOREVER" inscribed beneath. The memorial is securely attached to the front wall of Memorial Cottage, which is not considered of special interest.
