Description

This is a terrace of twelve houses, numbered 21 to 32, Hallgarth Street, Durham. They were likely built around 1840. The houses are constructed with Flemish bond brickwork, featuring a painted rendered plinth and painted ashlar dressings. The roofs are primarily of Welsh slate on Nos. 22, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31 and 32, with concrete tiles on the remaining houses.

Each house has two storeys and two bays. They have steps leading to six-panelled entrance doors with overlights set within panelled reveals. The doorcases include pilasters and bracketed hoods. The sash windows retain their glazing bars, except for No. 30, which has replacement windows. All windows have wedge stone lintels and projecting stone sills. The terrace features paired wood gutter brackets and wood gutters. Each house has a low-pitched roof with one ridge chimney.
