Description
The churchyard wall, located 40 metres west of the Church of St. Edmund, is possibly from the 17th century. It is constructed of rubble with dressed quoins and has an L-plan layout facing The Square to the west and Rectory Row to the south. The western section of the wall stands between 1.5 and 2.0 metres high and features chamfered, roll-moulded coping. This section extends south for about 50 metres and is interrupted by a lych gate located to the north of the centre. The southern section, which is of similar height, runs east along Rectory Row for approximately 110 metres and ends at the western return of the Workingmen's Club. The 12-metre section of the wall on the west has chamfered, roll-moulded coping, while the rest, which has been partly rebuilt, has flat coping. The wall is included for its group value.
