Description

Greenwell Farmhouse is a house, likely built in the late 17th century, with alterations from the 18th century. It features a date of 1721 and the initials T M G (for Greenwell) above the door. The building is designed in an L-plan and constructed from roughly-coursed squared sandstone with quoins and ashlar dressings. The roof is a renewed flagged type made of synthetic stone, complete with stone gable copings and stone chimneys. The house has two storeys and two wide bays.

To the right of the centre, there is a three-panelled door set in a raised stone surround beneath a pediment, with a coat of arms, date, and initials displayed above. The windows are three-light stone-mullioned with recessed chamfers. The gable copings are supported by widely-curved kneelers, and there are ridge chimneys at the ends and to the right of the centre. The returns of the building feature two rectangular attic windows in each gable peak.

Inside, there is a closed-string upper-flight stair with a moulded handrail supported by twist-shaped flat balusters, rising from a wide landing with a short flight from the ground floor. The upper landing has a similar balustrade. A plank-and-batten rear door is present, and a wide segmental chamfered stone fire opening is revealed in the right room on the ground floor.
