Description

South View Cottage, also known as Woodside Cottage and The Cottage, is a group of three houses built around 1863 by S.S. Teulon for Rev. Daniel Capper. The houses are constructed of snecked sandstone in various colours, with ashlar quoins and dressings, and have a roof of grey slates. A later 20th-century, two-storey addition is set back to the right.

The original part of the building is one storey, five bays wide, with a single-storey extension to the rear of the left return. A two-storey addition was constructed to the right. Modern wood and glass porches are located at the left end and in the third bay. Most windows are modern casements, however, The Cottage at the right end retains original three-light and one-light ground-floor windows with glazing bars, and a two-light half-dormer above. All windows are set in flush stone surrounds with alternate-block jambs. There is a small window above the central porch. Wide gables are present over the outer bays, with smaller gables above the second and fourth bays, each containing a two-light half-dormer. The steeply-pitched roof is topped with two ridge chimneys and one transverse chimney. The right extension incorporates a garage door below a three-light casement window with glazing bars.
