Description
This is a terrace of eight houses located at 5-12 Victoria Avenue, built around 1870. The houses are constructed from coursed squared stone in thin courses, featuring an ashlar plinth and dressings. They are two storeys high with attics, with the end houses having three windows and the others having two. The doors are panelled with various patterns, some displaying Gothic details, and all have overlights set in round-headed doorcases with attached columns that have crocket capitals, along with corniced lintels featuring keyed dripstrings.
Number 9 has "ALBERT HOUSE" incised in a stone panel. There are steps leading up to the doors of numbers 10 and 11, with number 11 having a basement window and number 10 having a blocked basement area. The ground-floor windows are canted bays with bracketed sills, slender pilasters, and shallow segmental heads above the lights. Numbers 10 and 11 have shouldered arches and hipped roofs on their bay windows, with number 11 covered in fishscale tiles.
The first-floor windows, which are paired above the canted bays, have chamfered surrounds and shouldered lintels with shallow carved decorations. All houses except number 12 feature gabled dormers with similar windows and shouldered kneelers at the stone gable coping. The eaves have a bracketed gutter cornice, and the roof is topped with corniced transverse ridge chimneys.
In front of the houses, there are dwarf walls, although the railings have mostly been lost, except for number 11, which retains cast-iron railings along the street. Numbers 10 and 11 also have plain wrought-iron balustrades on their steps.
