Description
Buckshott Farmhouse and the adjoining byres are a farmhouse and agricultural buildings, likely dating from the early 17th century with later additions. The structure features thin courses of sandstone and limestone rubble, with large millstone grit quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with stone-flagged roofs. The older part of the farmhouse is two stories high and has two bays, while the lower byre to the right is also two stories and has four bays, accompanied by a one-story, three-bay extension.
The original farmhouse has two wide ground-floor windows from the 20th century, which have concrete sills and lintels, and two square first-floor windows with flat stone lintels and thin stone sills. There is a chamfered square-headed blocked door on the left side, which is mostly obscured by the left wing, and end chimneys are present. The right byre features a partly-glazed boarded door on the left, with large irregular-block jambs and a flat stone lintel. The ground floor of the byre is partly obscured by 20th-century additions, and there are three small square openings on the first floor. The rear of the older part shows a very irregular plinth and quoins, and the wall is battered down to one meter below the eaves, with a thinner wall set into this.
The interior has not been inspected, but a blocked door is reported in the former return gable wall. The barn and one-story addition are included for their group value, while the 20th-century additions are not of interest.
