Description
No. 5 Townhead is a house dated 1702, indicated by the initials I.S. on the door lintel. The building features coursed squared sandstone with a boulder plinth, quoins, and painted ashlar dressings, topped by a Welsh slate roof. It has two storeys and two bays. The entrance is a partly glazed door on the right, which is set under a lintel that has a patterned recessed panel displaying the date, initials, and a patera. To the left, there is a 20th-century three-light window with an inserted lintel and sill. The first floor has small square two-light windows in plain stone surrounds. There is a remnant of a thatch-roof dripstone beside the right window, and a change in masonry can be seen above the windows. The roof features a chimney at the left end. The left return of the house shows a small window to the right, which has deep reveals. The eaves were raised and the roof was renewed in the 19th century.
