Description
The gate piers and gates of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene were likely built in 1878 by the architectural firm Austin, Johnson and Hicks. They are made of sandstone ashlar and consist of two square piers with chamfered bases. Each pier features an abacus below a corniced top, which is topped with brattished coping. The double vehicle gates are constructed from wrought and cast iron, featuring slender cast-iron uprights with leaf finials and slender principals with shepherd's-crook finials. Gothic arches are formed between the uprights by curved wrought strips, and the gates have a top hinged loop fastening.
