Description

The Johnson headstone, located 10 metres south of the Church of St. Brandon, is a Grade II listed structure from 1799 commemorating Thomas Johnson. Made of sandstone, it stands 1.5 metres high and features a shaped top. The headstone has two sunk panels with low-relief carvings: a doctor's bag on the left and surgical instruments, including gloves, forceps, razors, and a saw, on the right. The inscription reads: "To the Memory of Thomas Johnson of This Parish who Died June The 29. Year 1799. Aged 75. What I was once some may relate What I am now is all Mens Fate What I shall be none can explain Till He that call'd doth call again."
