Description

Vauxhall Bridge is a twin-track railway and footpath bridge over the River Bure, built around 1850. It was strengthened and had a footpath section added around 1900. The original parts are made of wrought iron, while the later additions are of steel. The bridge features rusticated stone abutments and is constructed with three bow-spring lattice girders and suspension rods from around 1900, which support three longitudinal beams from the original 1850 construction. The lower bow-spring supports the footpath addition.

Historically, the bridge was authorized by the Norfolk Railway (Yarmouth Extension) in October 1847. After its strengthening and extension around 1900, it carried rail and tram traffic as well as pedestrians. This bridge is a rare example of a wrought-iron railway bridge that has significant early steel strengthening.
