Description

A pair of late 18th-century houses located on North Quay in Great Yarmouth. The buildings are constructed of gault brick, colourwashed except for the south bay. No. 81 has a roof of black-glazed pantiles, while No. 82 has a concrete tile roof.

The houses present a four-window range at No. 81 and a three-window range at No. 82. No. 81 features a deeply recessed entrance, sheltered by a screen of two unfluted columns and two pilasters supporting a Doric frieze. Behind the screen is a 6/6 flush-framed sash window and a 6-panelled door with a geometric fanlight above. The first floor is lit by a single 2/2 horned sash window. No. 82 has a central 20th-century door set within late 18th-century panelled reveals, and is topped by an 8-vaned fanlight lacking its original glazing bars. Fluted reeded columns support a fluted frieze and a moulded hood above the doorway. There are two 2/2 horned sash windows to the right and left of the doorway, and three to the first floor. A parapet runs along the entire elevation. The roof is gabled, hipped to the south, with an internal gable-end stack to the north and a ridge stack to the south. The interior has not been inspected.
