Description

Richmond Bridge, built in 1777 by James Paine and Kenton Couse, is a Grade I listed structure. It was widened in 1937 and is constructed from Portland stone. The bridge features five moulded segmental arches that rise gradually to the center, which has the widest and tallest arch. It also includes two land-bound semi-circular arches and moulded semi-circular cutwaters. A bracketed cornice runs along the top, and the balustraded parapets are solid over the cutwaters, with iron lamp standards positioned above. Richmond Bridge is now the oldest bridge over the Thames within the boundaries of Greater London.
