Description
The Palm Court Hotel is an ensemble that includes Heron House and extensions to the south, which connect with Tower House on Bridge Street. Heron House dates from the early 18th century and is two storeys high with dormers, featuring five windows across its façade. It is constructed of red brick and has stone modillion bands and quoins. A later addition is a projecting balustraded porch supported by Doric columns. In front of the house, there is a low panelled wall with rusticated piers. The roof is now covered with slate, and there is a basement facing the riverside. The complex also includes a range of 2 and 3-storey 19th-century extensions, primarily designed by Laxton, although the extension directly next to Heron House is from the early 20th century.
