Description

Westminster Bridge is a road bridge built in 1862 by Thomas Page. It is constructed of cast iron, with grey granite piers and abutments. The bridge features Gothic detailing that complements the nearby Houses of Parliament. It has seven segmental girder arches, with cast iron pierced work panelled spandrels that include shields, and Gothic pierced work balustrades on the parapets. The dies of the bridge are topped with Tudor-Gothic cast iron lamp standards, which hold twin bracketed octagonal lanterns and a crowning lantern, all adorned with gilded finials. The eastern half of the bridge is located in the London Borough of Lambeth.
