Description

The lock walls at the mouth of the former Old Town Dock were built in the mid-19th century. They extend approximately 170 metres in length and are 22 metres wide. The walls are made of large blocks of Pennant sandstone ashlar, with granite jamb stones at the rebates where the former dock gates were located, although these gates have since been removed. There is evidence of twin dock gates, and some cast iron bollards can still be found on either side of the dock wall, though they are partially covered by modern infill material and vegetation.
