Description
The Allfrey Tomb, located at Malpas Church, is a large classical sarcophagus-type monument. It features a moulded plinth and tapering sides with raised and panelled corners. The tomb has a hollow frieze and a tapering table-top, along with small blank end-panels. The side panels are inscribed, with the south side commemorating Mary Allfrey, the only daughter of the late George Allfrey of Friston Place in Sussex, who died on December 21, 1844, at the age of 44. The north side honors John Stening Allfrey, the third son of George Allfrey, who passed away on January 28, 1853, at the age of 51. An additional inscription along the top is dedicated to Edward Allfrey, who died in 1866.
