Description

27 Backhall Street is a two-storey building, likely dating to the 18th or early 19th century, situated within a row of buildings running parallel to the street. The exterior is pebble-dashed over local rubble stone and has a Welsh slate roof. The ground floor features a shopfront and three windows, alongside two doors, arranged as follows from left to right: window, door, window, window, shopfront, door. The left-hand window is a sash window with 6 over 6 panes, while the other two windows have 4 over 4 panes, with exposed window casings and elliptical heads. The left-hand door is a four-panel door. The right-hand door is a modern, part-glazed door incorporated into the shopfront, which is a mid-19th century design with a small, multi-paned window arrangement set within a moulded frame. Above, there are six sash windows, each with 4 over 4 panes and exposed casings; the left-hand window is spaced unevenly compared to the others. The roof is gabled, with a ridge stack on the left gable. Originally, the building included a small rear wing which is now detached. The building has group value, contributing to the character of the street. Not inspected at the time of resurvey.
