Description
The former drill hall is a castellated building from the 19th century, standing three storeys tall. It is constructed of grey-brown rubble with bathstone dressings, which have been painted, and features a hipped slate roof. The central archway, which is now glazed, is flanked by turrets that rise to support a dormer with a shaped gable and a mullioned window. An oriel window is located at the second floor level. On each side of the building, there are three-storey sections with 3-light mullion and transom windows. The ends of the building have semi-circular castellated turrets and small windows that step upwards in the left (stair) turret. The return to Caroline Street includes two tall windows on the front block, while the rear block has two windows beneath a hipped slate roof. A similar return to Cross Lane features a front block with windows at two levels.
