Description

The Church of St Mary is a Grade I listed building featuring a nave, chancel, south porch, and a tower with a spire located at the north corner of the nave and chancel. The gabled south porch has a doorway adorned with early 18th-century Doric pilasters, while the inner entrance door resembles the porch but has a cusped arch. To the right of the porch, there is a window with a brick head and casement glazing. The nave has two large Gothic windows with keystones and wooden diamond pane glazing. The chancel includes a door and a window with two trefoil lights, both from the 19th century. To the left of the porch, the nave features a similar window. The west end has a round-headed window with a keystone above a round-headed doorway, also with a keystone and imposts. The northwest corner has buttresses. The north wall of the nave contains three pointed windows with casement glazing, separated by buttresses. The west face of the tower shows a scar from a former aisle and features a stone spire with a pierced parapet and three-foil arcades. The bell stage on the west face has a two-light trefoil window, with a similar single light window on the next stage. The north face of the tower has bell and upper windows like those on the west, with a middle window matching the upper; the ground floor has a three-light square-headed window and diagonal buttresses. The east face of the tower has windows similar to the north but includes a square stair tower with slit windows, all offset to the right to accommodate the stair, along with a door at ground floor level. The east window consists of three cusped lights in a 19th-century middle pointed style.

Inside, the nave features a 19th-century boarded tunnel roof and a late 18th or early 19th-century gallery with a panelled front at the west end. The church contains box pews, an 18th-century decked pulpit, and early 20th-century choir stalls.
