Description

The building, now known as Saxonbury Nursing Home and formerly Haverang House, was constructed from yellow brick with red brick banding and has a red tile roof. It is a large, rectangular block facing southwest, with a lower block and the main entrance on the northeast (street) elevation.

The street elevation features three storeys on the rear of the main block. The central bay has a gabled entrance porch projecting at an angle from the corner, set on a stone base, with timber framing above. A mullion window sits above the porch, illuminating the hall and stairwell; another mullion-and-transom window is above that, performing the same function. Between these windows are four terracotta relief panels arranged in two sets, separated by a thin red brick band. Above the upper window is a shaped gable with stone dressings, a central terracotta relief, and a spike finial at the apex. The right-hand bay has a two-over-two pane sash window on each floor, the top one being smaller and with a triangular gable featuring a terracotta relief. The left-hand bay is partially obscured by the lower wing, but otherwise mirrors this design. The lower wing has a canted bay to its left with a two-over-two pane sash flanked by one-over-one panes. Above is a smaller two-over-two pane sash and a small triangular gable with terracotta relief. To the right of this bay is a single one-over-one pane sash with a blind wall above, another gable with a window in the right return above the porch. The roof is hipped and has lost all of its chimney stacks.

The garden elevation is three storeys high with six windows. The left-hand side has a two-storey canted bay with a 1+2+1 window arrangement, all two-over-two-over-two panes, with plain two-over-two panes above. The centre of this bay rises to a triple sash with one-over-one panes within a shaped Flemish gable, with tiled roofs over the canted sides. To the right are paired two-over-two pane sashes on two floors, and smaller paired two-over-two sashes on the third floor, which support a small triangular gable. Both gables have terracotta relief panels. The return elevations have more plain sash windows, as well as the truncated chimney stacks. Modern two-storey wings have been added to the left, and a one-storey wing to the right.

The interior retains an open-well staircase with turned balusters and newel posts in a style reminiscent of the late 17th century, but is otherwise plain and has been altered for its current use as a care home. The staircase windows contain original coloured glass.
