Description

Castle Vale is a stucco villa in classical style with an earlier core, which has been altered and extended. It features a shallow pitched part-hipped slate roof with rendered end and rear stacks. The building has a double pile plan and stands two storeys tall. The road-facing side has a three-window range of 4-pane horned sashes with shallow sills, all set behind a high parapet. The garden elevation is asymmetrical due to the awkward junction with the road frontage. It includes three first-floor 4-pane sashes and two large 6-pane full-length French windows on either side of a central porch that has antae, an entablature, and a panelled part-glazed door.

Attached iron railings with leaf and urn finials extend across the road and garden frontages, resting on a low stone wall, although the coping has been replaced with concrete. The building has a stepped-down lower wing that descends into the hillside and features a different roof pitch. At the rear, there are some small pane sash windows and one raised surround, along with swept eaves.
