Description
No. 24 Porthycarne Street is an early 19th-century detached villa designed in a classical style, featuring scored stucco. The building has a hipped slate roof with a shallow pitch, overhanging boarded eaves, and tall narrow rendered lateral stacks. It stands two storeys high and has a three-window range of sashes set in reveals with narrow glazing bars. The first-floor windows are 12-pane and have a continuous sill band, while the ground-floor windows have semi-circular heads within semi-circular recesses. The central portion of the villa slightly projects forward and includes a porch supported by fluted Doric columns in antis, topped with a shallow pediment. The entrance features a recessed six-panelled door with a fanlight, and the end corners of the building are set back.
The property is complemented by wrought iron railings with spear and urn finials atop a stone kerb, extending from the side wall across the front and incorporating double gates. Inside, the villa is reported to retain window shutters, panelled reveals, six-panelled doors and surrounds, as well as a staircase with stick balusters that rises from the hall. However, there are no contemporary fireplaces. The building was formerly used as offices.
