Description
There are two chest tombs located next to each other in the churchyard of the Church of St Teilo. Both tombs are made of limestone ashlar and feature complete wrought and cast iron railings, showcasing a Neo Classical style.
The first tomb is believed to be that of Simon Arorus, marked by incised corner pilasters and incised panels in between. It has a slab with a central ridge and bears the oldest inscription for Simon Arorus, who died in 1853. This tomb is surrounded by ornate wrought iron railings, which include dog bars with trefoil heads and an arched, hooped top rail.
The second tomb belongs to Mary Ann Elizabeth Evans, also featuring incised corner pilasters and incised panels. It has a slab with a central ridge and carries the oldest inscription for Mary Ann Elizabeth Evans, who died in 1854. This tomb is enclosed by extremely elaborate cast and wrought iron railings, which have cherubs' heads on the finials of the gate and barley twist ornamentation on the main uprights.
