Description

St Teilo's House is a Victorian Gothic style building constructed from squared purple and grey rockfaced sandstone rubble, featuring yellow freestone quoins and dressings, and a Welsh slate roof banded in purple and grey. The house has two storeys and attics, with a randomly planned layout that includes many projecting gables adorned with fretted bargeboards.

The entrance elevation consists of three bays. The left bay features a large projecting stack on the side of the parlour wing. The central bay projects forward and contains a recessed plank door set in a pointed arch outlined in yellow stone, with no window above. Instead, there is an elaborate dormer with secondary gables on the cheeks of the roof, featuring 2 + 2 casement windows. The main gable has paired 2 + 2 sashes with stone mullions on the ground floor, with a date panel reading 1860 positioned between them. Above this, there is a large three-light window with 2 over 2 sashes, also with stone mullions, framed in yellow stone and topped with a large dripmould. The bargeboard features a pendant. The right bay has a paired sash window on both floors, with a ridge stack located to the right and a lateral stack at the angle of the wing.

The garden elevation also has three bays, with the entrance bay on the right already described. It features a plinth, and on the left, there is another three-light sash window in a heavy stone frame that slightly projects. Above this, a 2-light window rises into a fretted gable. The central bay projects forward and includes a canted bay window on the ground floor, which has four lights with stone mullions and a transom, with each light consisting of a single pane above a 1 over 1 sash. This bay window is topped with a fretted valance and a slate roof. Above it, there is a paired 2 over 2 sash window, and in the gable above, a single light window is present. A ridge stack is located at the left end.

The rear elevation features a service wing to the left with 8 over 8 sash windows. The interior was not available for inspection at the time of the resurvey in June 1997.
