Description

Raglan Lodge is a Regency-style house and shop, attached on one side. The walls are rendered with scored roughcast, and the slate roof features a moulded wooden crowning cornice that follows the curve of the bay. The building has a narrow frontage and extends significantly to the rear, comprising four separate units. The three-storey frontage includes a triple-light flat segmental bow window with multipane sashes on both the first and second floors. The first floor has a leaded tent canopy supported by a slender iron column, while the second floor features an ornamental ironwork balcony. The ground floor has a later projecting bow window shop front and an entrance to the left with a three-pane overlight.

To the right side, a flight of stone steps leads to the British Legion club premises, along a pebble-dashed side elevation that has been partly concealed by a modern extension. This side has two blocked window openings on the first and second floors and a blocked pointed arch window on the ground floor. There is a semi-circular headed doorway with an arched fanlight without glazing bars above double boarded doors, and a fixed light semi-circular headed window above that.

At the rear, there is a further wing that is taller than the frontage, featuring a three-window range of glazing in reveals, along with additional stepped down wings that include some sashes. The basement is divided by modern partition walls between the shop and club cellar. Three large rib-vaulted bays are visible, showcasing heavy chamfered ribs, two bosses with floral decoration, and one with a human face. The smaller bays at the front have lighter ribs and a floral boss. The club cellar contains 19th-century Gothick doorways and glazing.
