Description

14 Beaufort Square is a Regency style shop with living accommodation above, built in the early 19th century and attached to numbers 13 and 16. The building has roughcast rendered walls, a hipped slate roof hidden behind a decorative wooden cornice and a painted brick parapet. It rises three storeys plus an attic, and includes a basement. The upper floor features a two-window facade with 12-pane sash windows. The first floor has 15-pane sash windows. The ground floor has a large triple-light window with narrow side windows. A square-headed doorway, with a wooden door surround, panelled reveals, and an oblong fanlight, is located to the left of the ground floor. The basement projects outwards to create a terrace in front of the ground floor. The side elevation has a single window on each floor. A rear wing features a hipped slate roof and a 12-pane sash window with Gothic glazing. A substantial chimney bay, constructed of rubble with three angled brick stacks, is attached to the right side of the building. The basement contains a medieval vaulted roof which incorporates two carved stone heads, potentially from a 14th century moot hall.
