Description
The Stable Range at Hoaldalbert is an early 19th century two-storey stable block. It is constructed from coursed stone blocks and topped with a corrugated asbestos roof. The symmetrical south front features three blind windows on the first floor, each with triangular heads and stone sills. A string course runs between the first and ground floors. The ground floor has a stone plinth and a central pair of segmental arched doorways with stone voussoirs, one of which has a boarded half door. There are square window openings on each side of the doorways, each with similar arches; a 2-light mullion window survives on the right. The front of the adjoining cartshed to the left is enclosed by 20th-century blockwork.
On the north elevation, there is a broad entry for the cartshed at the center, featuring a flat head of stone voussoirs and boarded double doors. Each side, below the eaves, has boarded doors leading to the pitching loft. The east gable includes a blind roundel in the gable head.
Inside the stable, there is a transverse stone partition wall with a loft above. The structure consists of three bays, and the trusses have collars supported from below by tall raking struts, which are tenoned into the tops of the loft beams below.
