Description
Hoaldalbert Farmhouse is a small 17th-century farmhouse constructed from thinly coursed rubble stone, topped with a slate roof featuring a tile ridge. The building is two stories high with an attic and has an outshut at the rear. The walls exhibit a slight batter. The east front has an off-centre doorway, which features a late 19th-century four-panel door with a flat hood above it. A break in the masonry to the left of the door indicates the junction between the original early 17th-century cottage on the right and the later addition on the left.
On the ground floor, there are three-light transoms on each side of the entrance, although these are currently boarded over. The first floor has two corresponding transoms with segmental arched window heads. The voussoirs of the left windows are thin and feature projecting keystones, while those on the right are squarer. The north gable attic includes a four-light diamond mullion window, and the first floor has a four-light roll-moulded mullion window with an inserted casement, which was originally a five-light window. The ground-floor opening on this side is also boarded over. The south gable has a projecting stone chimneystack with offsets and a moulded cap, along with an integral stack on the north gable. At the rear, there is a 19th-century single-storey stone outshut with a tall brick stack.
Inside, entry is through a central lobby. The ground floor room to the left features moulded ceiling beams, one with a roll and the other with a double roll moulding. The room to the right has chamfered ceiling beams with diagonal stops, and the joists are adorned with roll moulding at the angles. The first floor has triangular section joists with similar roll moulding. The large habitable attic space is partitioned into two rooms, and the roof consists of four bays with upper cruck trusses that are angled at the foot and equipped with collars.
