Description
The East Wing of Mathern House is a 17th-century addition constructed from local random rubble, with the rear wall rendered and a Welsh slate roof. The building is L-shaped and has two storeys. The garden front features a forward-facing gable with two ground floor windows, which are cross-framed casements with leaded lattice lights, and a three-light window in the gable above. The gable has plain bargeboards and a large kitchen stack on the right return wall. The left return includes two 2-light windows, with two additional windows at right angles to these, aligned with the front of Mathern House. To the right, there is a single-storey wing that contains the entrance door. The rear elevation has a modern lean-to across the ground floor, featuring two windows and French casements, along with two gabled half-dormers in the roof, which is hipped to the left.
During the recent survey, only the ground floor was examined. It has been fully modernised, making it difficult to recognize its original layout. The main reception room is identifiable as the former Dining Room of Mathern House, while the dining room was likely the Kitchen.
