Description

Llwyn-celyn Farmhouse is a 17th-century house that has been rendered and painted, likely over rubble stone, and features Welsh slate roofs. The building has a T-shaped layout, with the foot of the T extending behind the main rectangular section. An in-line wing has been added to the left of the main front, while a later wing has been added at right angles to the rear.

The main entrance, located on the south elevation, has a three-bay front with a central entrance set in a gabled porch featuring a square-headed opening and a 19th-century door. The house is two storeys with an attic, and the kitchen wing to the left is one storey with an attic. The front windows are modern steel casements, including one in the kitchen wing. The steeply pitched roof has two gabled Victorian dormers and large gable stacks at either end, which are external. A red sandstone plaque on the gable displays the date 1705 in relief.

The kitchen wing has a plain door on the left and a window on the right, with a hipped roof to the left and a red brick ridge stack. The rear elevation features a central projecting wing with a hipped roof, which includes a tripartite window under an elliptical head below and a 6 over 6 sash window above. To the left, there is a later wing with a similar 2-light window below and a 6 over 6 pane sash above, as well as a tall red brick stack. A 3-light window is located in the return of the main wing. The rear of the main house has two windows and a slightly projecting three-storey gabled bay to the right, with a 6 over 6 pane sash on the ground floor and 4 over 4 pane sashes above. There is a doorway to the upper floor at the back of the kitchen wing.

Although not available for inspection at the resurvey, it is reported to have chamfered ceiling beams, a dog-leg stair with oak treads, and a principal rafter roof, which are typical features for this type of house. This aligns with the observations of Fox and Raglan, who noted a two-room plan with a parlour on the left and a hall on the right, as well as a vaulted cellar beneath the rear wing. They also mentioned that the framed staircase is top-lit and has acorn newels.
