Description
Ty Brith Cottage is part of a group of three buildings, which also includes Ty Brith and Ty'r Ardd (Garden House). This large townhouse has been divided into three separate dwellings, each with its own roof. The exterior is finished with stucco render and paint, featuring a slate roof, sprocketed eaves, and large narrow rendered ridge stacks. The building stands two storeys tall with an attic.
The main facade facing Priory Street, known as Ty Brith, showcases a central gable that contains a small arched attic sash window with glazing bars within a rectangular frame. The first floor features a range of three 12-pane sash windows set in reveals with shallow sills, complemented by quoin strips and a plinth. The entrance is marked by an early Tudor-arched doorway made of painted stone, with light mouldings that stop at the base. It has a wooden studded door with long hinges and a distinctive small hexagonal upper light, all beneath a shallow bracketed gabled hood.
On the south gabled elevation, there is a single range of similar sash windows along with canted bays on the ground floor. The side elevation facing Twyn Square is also gabled, with 12-pane sash windows at three levels, and a large window featuring multi-pane fixed glazing. To the left, there is an earlier small square chamfered opening with two iron bars.
The lower cross wing, which is Ty Brith Cottage, has paired sash windows, while two smaller deep-set lights to the left indicate the thickness of the wall. Stepping down, there is a lower hipped roof wing with a pebble-dashed blocked doorway at the rear, along with a length of old rubble wall that has blocked features. This area includes a doorway with a brick surround leading to Ty Brith Cottage, flat coping, and a small pointed brick-arched opening, which connects to the former stable block.
Ty'r Ardd consists of the wide inner wing that runs parallel to the main frontage. It features rendered end stacks, slightly swept eaves, and a two-window range of tri-partite sashes. Attached to the south gable end is a large restored conservatory that is positioned against a part-external chimney stack.
