Description
This is a small timber-framed barn located to the south of Pen-y-fedw Farmhouse. It features a random-rubble plinth that reaches about one third of the full height, although part of the south side has been replaced with brick. The barn's walls are constructed with two tiers of square framing, consisting only of studs with intermediate rails, and do not include principal wallposts. The gables are supported by principal-rafter trusses with queen-struts leading to a collar. The panels of the barn are rendered. The roof is covered with red pantiles and has three eaves courses of stone slate.
The north front, which faces the farmhouse, includes a large gabled porch at the center. This porch has a restored wooden frame around the wagon opening, with a modern glazed screen set back behind it. There is also an opposed wagon opening in the south wall that features a similar modern screen.
Inside, there are two cross-frames made up of internal wall-posts with angle-bracing to collar trusses, all constructed from light scantling. The barn has two tiers of trenched purlins, which have been renewed.
