Description
The Castle Inn is a Georgian-fronted inn that is set back and attached at each side. The building is rendered and painted, featuring a slate roof with yellow brick corniced end stacks. It has two storeys and a four-window range of 12-pane horned sashes on the first floor. The ground floor includes tripartite sashes on the sides and a central doorway to the right, which has a six-panelled door and a bracketed hood. There is a 12-pane sash window to the left and a deep painted plinth.
Inside, there is a long central cross passage from the front door, with rooms opening off either side. Some of these rooms have six-panelled doors with reeded surrounds. The stairs rise parallel to the front at the mid-right. To the left are the bars. The front bar features two shallow cross beams, window seats, and reeded plaster surrounds to alcoves on either side of the fireplace. A small rectangular window with leaded diamond quarries is set low in the wall between the bars. The rear bar contains a small low window with a Tudor arch and a four-centred arched fireplace in the inner wall. The rear outbuildings are incorporated into the bar and include a large gable end stack and a later extension.
