Description
This is a very small, low cottage, likely dating to the 18th century, originally comprising a single room on two floors. It has two slightly later lean-to extensions to the rear. The cottage is constructed of stone rubble and has a low-pitched Welsh slate roof with two gable end stacks. A central entrance features a plank door set beneath a sandstone lintel, and similarly lintelled casement windows are located on either side. The windows in the very low upper storey are of a similar design. The rear lean-to extensions have cat-slide roofs.
The internal layout consists of a single room, approximately 18 feet by 10 feet. While there are two external chimney stacks, only one provides a working chimney. A fireplace with a small 19th-century cast-iron range is set into the western gable wall. A winding staircase rises from the corner of the opposite gable wall, with stone steps at the base and timber steps above. The upper room has a diminutive cast-iron hob grate and is open to the roof, displaying very slight rafters with collars. A lean-to wash house located to the rear right retains a bread oven and a cast-iron copper.
