Description
The teahouse, also referred to as a gazebo, is located at Tredean and is listed as a Grade II building. Due to the steeply falling ground, large rubble retaining walls were constructed, which remain along with their associated steps and buttresses. At the north corner of the terrace, overlooking the steepest drop, the gazebo features walls made of vertical timber framing with rendered panels and a hipped tiled roof. The structure consists of two interlocking squares and is a single storey. It has timber lattice casements.
Currently, the gazebo is set up as a Japanese teahouse, complete with a timber dais, but the overall structure and internal finish have not been significantly altered, aside from the lowering of the ceiling.
