Description

The main entrance to the New Cemetery features a tall pair of Gothic gate-piers made of bull-nosed rubble, topped with large freestone caps designed to resemble tabernacles. These gate-piers are gabled and panelled, displaying lancet and trefoil designs, and are crowned with domical octagonal caps that have foliated finials, although the finial on the right is missing. The wrought-iron gates are also in a Gothic style, complete with dog-bars and lock-bars. Curved rubble walls flank the entrance, extending outward to connect with the boundary wall at the roadside.
