Description
The East Courtyard Buildings at Mounton House are constructed of squared rubble stone with tiled roofs and date from the 19th century. They form a courtyard that is open to the main approach and consist of single-storey buildings, featuring gabled wings that project towards the drive. Inside the courtyard, the joinery dates from after 1950, and the buildings have undergone significant alterations, losing their original stable and coach doors, which have been replaced by standard windows. The exterior also features joinery from the 1950s. One gable in the courtyard has a 4-light Tipping window, while the two gable ends have 3-light windows. The importance of these gables lies in their similarity to those listed with the house across the entrance drive, and they were reportedly inspired by a barn arrangement at Markenfield in Yorkshire. The buildings have been extensively modified during their conversion from stables to school buildings.
