Description

The garden walls of Mounton House are a significant feature, primarily along the entrance drive. The walls are constructed of square limestone rubble. They begin at the cottages and initially run behind the Parterre Garden and Orchard, with panelled sections highlighted by full-height buttresses that are set back, and finished with triangular coping. Further walling follows, interspersed with the gabled ends of buildings and gateways. The overall design evokes the approach to Barrington Court in Somerset, although the inspiration for the walls at Mounton appears to have come from the arrangement of barns at Markenfield in Yorkshire.
