Description

The Cedars is a two-storey villa with a rear wing and a basement, dating from the 18th century. The house is rendered, likely over a rubble stone base, in a style typical of local houses of the period. The main block is a single depth, with a central entrance featuring a six-panel door with four glazed panels, a rectangular fanlight, architrave surround, and a small flat hood. This entrance is flanked by slight two-storey projections containing windows. Ground floor windows are large tripartite sashes installed around 1990. While not original, they are set within what are believed to be the original window frames, consisting of nine-over-nine pane sashes with three-over-three pane sidelights, and a dripmould. The upper floor has a central six-over-six sash flanked by tripartite windows with four-over-four panes and smaller two-over-two panes. The roof has a low pitch with projecting eaves and brick gable stacks. The gable walls are blind and feature bargeboards with slight scalloping. The rear wing incorporates two tall plate glass sashes on the ground floor, with hoods above, and six-over-six sashes above. It also has a brick gable stack, a gable wall with a single small window, and plain bargeboards. A modern two-storey, two-window extension has been added to the left side of the house.

Inside, the house has four main rooms facing the front, with a central hall leading to the staircase in the rear wing. Most of the original doors and joinery remain. The staircase has stick balusters and retains a lozenge glazed window, thought to be original to the front of the house. The kitchen is situated on a lower level beneath the rear wing. The upper floors were not inspected.
