Description

The New Inn is a largely 18th-century inn, constructed of roughly squared local rubblestone with some red brick patching and a Welsh slate roof, with pantiles to one wing. It is a three-storey, single-depth building with a central entrance and a stair turret at the rear, with substantial additions that incorporate what were likely 19th-century buildings.

The main front elevation has three bays. The central entrance features an arch with a Tudor-style head, likely re-used, and a modern multi-pane door. It is flanked by modern windows in slightly widened openings. The first floor has three six-over-six sash windows. The second floor has three four-plus-four casement windows under the eaves. The roof is steeply pitched and has large external stacks on either gable, each with two flues capped with red brick. The right-hand gable has a blocked window, while the left-hand gable has four windows with modern glazing.

To the right is a 20th-century single-storey wing with a swept roof, incorporating a porch flanked by modern windows. This connects the inn to what was probably a stable building from the 19th century, which has a pantiled roof. The rear elevation has a single-storey extension of four half-gabled bays that extends across the main house and the 20th-century wing, obscuring much of the rear of the 18th-century portion. The top of the gabled stair turret remains visible, with a modern window, but it is otherwise blind.

During a recent inspection, only the interior of the ground floor was viewed. The entrance hall and two rooms of the main house have been combined into a single bar space, but are otherwise unchanged, retaining both gable fireplaces and the original doors leading to the stair and the old kitchen wing. The stair appears to have been altered.
