Description
The former stable wing at No. 16 New Market Street, known as The Lawns, is a Grade II listed building. This outer wall of the stable block includes a former carriage entrance and is continuous with the garden wall to The Lawns and the adjoining No. 18. The structure is built of stone rubble, which is white painted on the street side, and features a hipped slate roof on the left section. The building is divided into three sections, each with its own roof.
The right section is a lower unit that has no openings facing the street but shows signs of alteration, with double doors at the rear. The central, deeper unit contains a wide carriage entrance supported by a timber lintel, with brickwork at the rear. The left end unit features small twin casements under timber lintels on the street side, while the rear has brickwork with 20th-century windows.
