Description
Twyn-gwyn Farm is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the 17th century. Originally two separate houses built at different times during the 17th century, it is rendered and whitewashed, probably over rubble stone, and features artificial slate roofs. The building is one and a half storeys tall, with a later kitchen wing extending south from the left end. The main range faces south and consists of two sections, with the right section having a slightly higher roof line. The left section appears to be the older part, with eaves that project on brackets formed from the ends of the floor joists.
On the ground floor, there is a three-light wood mullioned window, which is small-paned and dates from the 19th century, but is set in what seems to be an original opening. To the right of this window is a plank door. Above, there is a modern gable featuring a small-paned casement window with top-opening lights. The roof is steeply pitched and has a rendered stone stack with a red brick heightening at the left end of the ridge.
The projecting kitchen wing, which may date from the 18th or 19th century, has a lower roof line, a door at the front, a window at the rear, a central stack, and Welsh slates on the rear slope. The section to the right of the main range is possibly from the late 17th or early 18th century. This single-cell, one and a half storey block has a central window with a sliding sash and a modern gabled dormer above. It also features a steeply pitched roof with a rendered stack and red brick heightening at the left end of the ridge, and there is no door since the house is now a single dwelling.
On the rear wall, each section has two casement windows on the ground floor, with one on the right featuring a drip mould, and two smaller windows beneath the eaves in the older section only.
The interior of the farmhouse is challenging to interpret due to modern alterations and decoration. The staircase has been modified, and the fireplaces are blocked. However, principal rafter roofs are partially visible in both sections of the house.
