Description

Nos. 2A, 4 and 6 Commercial Street A formal late Georgian terrace of three storey buildings now all in commercial use, but built originally as shops with accommodation over. Rendered and painted, probably over brick, with Welsh slate roofs, some of which are replaced with artificial slates. 1:6:1 bays with the single bays set slightly forward, the left hand single bay is the inserted entrance to Pontypool Market (qv.) a Tudor style archway in limestone rubble with yellow Ebbw Vale brick dressings which is dated 1894 (see Market description for more details). The rest of the ground floor has two triple bay shops in the centre and a single bay one; all late C20 shopfronts and fascias. Cill band to first floor, which has an arcade of semi-circular arched recesses each containing a six over six sash, impost band, double thickness pier for the end bays. Cill band to second floor which has three over three sashes in plain openings. Frieze, eaves, plain roof.
