Description
The colliery ventilation furnace at Llandafal is constructed from brown and yellow firebrick, using black mortar. It has a circular plan with a diameter of approximately 3.5 meters and vertical sides that rise to about 7 meters. The thick walls are topped with large coping bricks featuring a diamond pattern. On the south side, there is a small blocked archway that may have been intended for the addition of another flue. The air shaft connects to a stone-lined drift of a similar date, which enters the hill from the riverbank below.
